FGC#16 My Rondeau- Birth Date 01-01

Birth Date 01-01

Birth date 01-01 , UN decree

From the Taliban I did flee

My family they were taken

You lock me up, say I’m fakin’

But all I want is to be free.

Took a boat across the rough sea

To live in ethnic harmony

My heart and mind it is achin’

Birth date 01-01.

I’ve had to learn my A to Zee

I learn your culture with much glee

No terrorist in the makin’

Has humanity been forsaken?

I want a chance to be me

Birth date 01-01.

  1. Jan Brown says:

Your poem is very expressive, communicating important issues of human dignity and the desire for freedom. Uses the traditional rondeau form, but with 21st century language and a rhythm that gives it a serious punch.

  2. I love the rhythm in this and the broken English, as if someone who is learning. Very nicely done.
